The Lovettsville German Society is a nonprofit organization that celebrates the German heritage of Lovettsville and strives to strengthen the relationship between Loudoun County and its sister county of Main-Taunus-Kreis in Germany.  Promotion and preservation of Lovettsville's and Loudoun County's 250+ year old German heritage is done by organizing and sponsoring authentic  German cultural events.  Membership in the German Society is based on a citizen's interest in the mission of the society.

 

 

 

 

 

 


What We Do

The goals of the organization include sponsoring the following events and outreach to German organizations both    in Germany and in the United States. To learn more about what the traditions of these events are, please click on our "What is It" tab.

 

  • Christkindlmarkt--a typical German Christmas market (this year will be held Dec 04 & 05)
  • Maifest--May Day celebrating the arrival of Spring complete with a maypole climbing (Maibaumkraxeln), crowning of the May King and Queen (Maikoenigspaar) and other revelry
  • Fasching--German carnival season leading up to Lent
  • Saint Martin's Day Lantern Parade--a children's holiday celebrating the noble deeds of St. Martin of Tours. Beware if you are a goose!
  • Student Exchange Program (educational & cultural), supporting the relationship with Loudoun's sister county of Main-Taunus-Kreis
  • Collaborating with the Lovettsville Historical Society to showcase our German heritage.
  • Develop working relationships with established German organizations in the greater Washington, D.C. area and Mid-Atlantic
  • Partnerning with our schools to provide educational opportunities to learn about the Palatine settlers of Lovettsville
